Fiber Optic Transfer Network DWDM

Datagroup has its own toll fiber optic network with total length of over 11.5 thousand km. Operability of the backbone network is provided by more than 90 hub sites.

As the basic technology of arranging the network the DWDM technology has been chosen. The DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transport technology provides for the highest (if compared to other transfer technologies currently used in the world) speed of transfer via one optic pair. Such high speed is provided due to utilization of wavelength multiplexing, when via one optic pair multiple independent streams are transferred, each of that is in a separate optical range.

The network was built on the basis of Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP multiservice transport platforms. This solution is one of the most up-to-date in the industry. The solution includes reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM). Such multiplexers enable to create on each optic fiber pair 32 virtual channels, any of which can have data transmission rate of either 2 or 5 or 10 Gbps, depending on transponder modules installed in the multiplexer.

In general, the current potential bandwidth of the network is 320 Gbps. In future, the highest available bandwidth of the network will be determined by the value of 2,560 Gbps.

Using DWDM technology enables the following:

The network enables to provide up-to-date telecommunication services to communication operators, Internet providers, and corporate customers.

The main benefits of DWDM network are the following:

At the communication node in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), on which two independent international fiber optic transition points have been arranged, ONS 15454 DWDM equipment has been also installed. Connections to international operators have been arranged, as well as to the leading global Internet backbones (Sprintlink, ReTN, Linxtelecom, RТcоm).
